Workshop Series: Financial Resources for Undocumented High School and College Students

Background: California State bills like Assembly Bill (AB) 540, AB 130, and AB 131 created an affordable college pathway for undocumented high school students, however this pandemic has caused a sharp decline in CA Dream Act Applications (CADAA) for both potential first-time students and potential returning students. As noted by the Public Policy Institute of California, the CA Student Aid Commission reported that compared to 2019, the overall CA Dream Act submissions by Californians fell 4% in 2020 and 16% in 2021. Furthermore, according to an Ed Source analysis, completion for the CA Dream Act for high school seniors is down roughly 45%.

Given these staggering statistics, WiseUp! and the California Dream Network (CDN) would like to invite y'all to attend our financial resources and CA Dream Act 101 workshops to help combat the decrease of undocumented students pursuing higher education.

High School Students: Are you an undocumented high school student getting ready to attend college in the Fall trying to figure out financial aid?
The WiseUp! Program will coordinate CA Dream Act Application (CADAA) 101 workshops to cover all you need to know on applying for the CADAA with the opportunity to request personal one-to-one guidance. The CA Dream Act is the state financial aid available for undocumented students interested in pursuing higher education, whether it be a Community College, CSU or UC institution.

College Students: Are you currently and undocumented college student realizing financial aid is not enough and in search of other financial resources?
The CDN, with the help of our State Policy Advocate and Dream Resource Center (DRC) Coalition, will gather financial resources and opportunities available for undocumented college students attending any college or university institution: Community College/ UC/ CSU/ Private.
