Summer Leadership Academy

Background

Since 2003, the California Dream Network (CDN) – a program of the non-profit organization the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights (CHIRLA) – has been one of the leading organizations for immigrant youth in the State of California. Our mission is to advocate for undocumented student rights and access to higher education, empower undocumented youth, and continue the fight for a comprehensive immigration reform. 


Summary

The CDN Summer Leadership Academy is open to ALL students, regardless of immigration status, who have a strong desire to learn about community organizing, state and national advocacy, and enhancing their own leadership skills. Whether you’re passionate about immigrant rights or would like to learn more about getting involved in your campus and community, this internship will provide the skills you need to become a community advocate. 


The Summer Leadership Academy will take place from June 27 to August 12, 2022 VIA ZOOM.

Internship Duties and Responsibilities

  • Attend virtual bi-weekly meetings

  • Commit to four hours minimum per week (flexible hours to accommodate school and work schedules)

  • Engage in teamwork and leadership building activities

  • Organize events and lead promotional activities through different outreach efforts

  • Opportunity to participate in virtual/in-person social justice events

  • Learn about immigration policy history and key state and national legislation

  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

  • Open to current college students, recent graduates, working professionals

  • Desire to advocate for immigrant and student rights

  • Ability to work with people from different backgrounds

  • Knowledge and understanding of the intersectionality in different spaces
